Unfortunately we guessed 1974. As history would have it; The National Anthem of Australia changed from God Save the Queen to Advance Australia Fair in 1984.
Lucky for my table we answered enough right answers to win the Southern River Hockey Club’s Inaugural Quiz Night.
Last Saturday night, after our great win, my Hockey club held it’s first Quiz Night. The night was a huge success with the club room totally packed with players, family, and friends. On my table were Jess (naturally), and my team mates Gavin and his girlfriend, Steve and his girlfriend, and Kevin and his wife.
Kevin and his wife helped out with the “older questions”, Jess was a pro with all the WA History/Geography questions, and the rest of us helped out with the rest. We were shocked to end Round One in the lead and from there onwards we kept growing in front.
I learnt many interesting facts that night. The Fremantle Prison closed in 1991, York is the oldest (inland) WA town, Collingwood were the first premiers of the AFL in 1990, the Round House is the oldest building in Perth, John Forest was the first WA Premier, and the national anthem for Australia changed in 1984.
For our efforts our table won a $400 dinner voucher at Brooklands Tav. One food critic rated the Brooklands as the 2nd best pub venue in Perth. I’ve been there a few times and I’d have to agree.
