It is finals time and last weekend was the first final for my Hockey team and coincidentally the Eagles. After finishing third in the Provisional 2 Gold competition we were up against fourth placed Riverside Lions. A win in that game would see us fight for a position into the Grand Final against the loser of 1vs2.
We have played Riverside a number of times with all results going our way. Riverside is a good team where only once have they worried us. As fate would have it our first final saw the end of the season for us as we went down 1-0 in unfortunate circumstances. We dominated the entire game, however we didn’t seem to click while attacking. Riverside on the other head had minimal shooting opportunities in which they only needed to get the ball in the net once, and that’s what they did. Although my defenders swear the ball was “kicked” in. Such is life.
The Eagles seem to have gone down in similar fashion. They played well the entire game and should have taken the win. However, as fate would have it, they lost by three points and a major injury blow to Ben Cousins. It is going to be a long road ahead with a win this weekend seeing them up against top side Geelong.
Jess’s Soccer team had a fight for their last fixtured game of the season. A win (or draw) in this game would guarantee them minor premiership. The game was similar to mine, Jess’s team dominated most of the game but the opposition had their chances. This time Jess stole the glory buy scoring from the far edge of the 18 yard box. A quality goal and enough to give them a 1-0 win.
As Glory season members the final sporting moment for the weekend was Glory vs Sydney. Glory had drawn all previous games 0-0 so they were looking to getting a name on the score sheet. The game was fairly even but I’d say Glory had more opportunities. It was a long 90 minutes and in the end they finished 0-0, again!
A busy weekend, a disappointing weekend, but at least Jess’s team were top of the ladder!
